World Solar Challenge - Australia

Yamaga Lantern Festival - Japan

The Naga Fireballs - Northern Thailand
If it`s natural phenomena that you are after, the Naga Fireballs festival in northern Thailand may just be your cup of tea. Every year, on the first full moon of October, literally thousands of red, yellow and orange fireballs appear from the bowels of the Mekong river and light up the moon-lit sky... only to disappear in to thin air. That this occurrence also coincides with the end of the rainy season, celebrated by Buddhists as "The Rains Retreat" or "The Buddhist Lent" helps the sprit along too- the monks have usually been cooped up for the three month rainy season, abstaining from a great deal of worldly pleasures... so Buddhists celebrate the end of this period with the giving of alms to the monks for their steadfastness over the period... and a good old knees up- which, in Thailand, usually equates to lots of fireworks, good food, light shows and lots of colour.Call 0860 400 500 or enquire online for more information on planning your trip.
Diwali (October - November)
An event on par with Christmas in the West, Diwali is celebrated all over India and by Hindus the world over. It means, literally, 'Festival of the lights'. For tourists to India during Diwali- a five day period at the end of the Hindu month of Ashwayuja, typically falling in late October to mid November- this might not be (ironically) the best time to visit. As with many festivals, Diwali is predominantly a family festival and large parades and mass public celebrations are rare- inasmuch as organised events are concerned.Call 0860 400 500 or enquire online for more information on planning your trip.
The Melbourne International Arts Festival
For 17 days in October, Melbourne becomes the centre of arts in Australia, with its annual arts festival.
